Yoga! What is this really? It's movement for stress reduction and body awareness. It's a form of Mindfulness. (That's a current buzz word in the mental health field). We focus on the pose, the task, and that allows our mind to be distracted from the other stressors. The parasympathetic system settles down and we are able to relax. Blood pressure reduces, anxiety reduces and we become more physically fit. Yoga literally means the union of Mind and Body. It's another tool to add to our healing.
In some cases we can use yoga as "movement" therapy. Talking is not easy for everyone. If you want to attend a yoga class, that is a group class 2x a week at the Phoenix Wellness Center. If you want individual therapy and want to learn a few poses that help you relax, just let me know!
I have been in both fields for 25 years. Yoga has kept me in a better balance mentally, and physically. Many students have been attending yoga for 20 plus years and feel much better after the 1 hour classes.
